Almost everyone who pursues the hobby of photography will eventually become enthralled with photographing nature; especially birds and animals. You can find great subjects in your own backyard, your local zoo or state park, or you can travel to far away places for your images. Although the photograph below of the sleeping lion was taken in South Africa, the two photographs of the mother lion with her cub were taken at the Buffalo, NY Zoo. The photograph of the heron was taken at a local nature preserve, whereas the photograph of the wild horses was taken at Assateague island, Maryland.
Photographing birds and animals usually requires a lot of patience. A telephoto lens for your camera is necessary - the longer the focal length the better.
